About Us

by Jake Hyde

It all started with a little black spider named Spade.

His name is Spade – for his deep black color and his love for digging!

And boy, does he love to dig!

He dug his way into my heart!

Where is a spade most often found?

– In a garden!

Hence, The Tarantula Garden was born!

Many years (and many tarantulas) later, I still find myself awestruck by his calm nature, outgoing personality, and captivating beauty. There is just something about Spade.

Despite my growing collection of fast, feisty and colorful tarantulas, I grew tired of the poor attitudes, constant hiding, and itchy hairs that plagued my keeping experience.

To add insult to injury, enclosures available in the market only exacerbated these issues, making keeping these precious animals more troublesome than necessary.

Speaking of enclosures... that was a major pain point for my formative years in the hobby, especially with housing Spade and subsequent tarantulas.

Cheap material, clashing shapes and sizes, overpriced, unsuited for tarantulas, the list goes on!

So much of our time is spent growing and studying these animals from a small size, and it never made sense to me that tarantula vivariums never got streamlined.

That is why we developed Tarantuscapes Vivariums, enclosures made specifically for tarantulas sized 1" and above.

All-in-all, we believe in the utility of these animals as wonderful vivarium pets, and we aim to make the tarantula hobby more streamlined and accessible to all, even the most fervent arachnophobes.

TTG Guiding Principles:

1. We love these animals, and want their populations to thrive, both in nature and in captivity. WE DO NOT BUY OR SELL WILD CAUGHT TARANTULAS.

2. While there are several tarantula species that make excellent pets, in our humble opinion, most are just not a good fit for captivity. WE DO NOT SELL DEFENSIVE OR OLD-WORLD TARANTULAS.

3. Ordering spiderlings online is a gamble. WE ONLY SHIP TARANTULAS 1" & ABOVE.

From one keeper to another, thank you for giving these animals the care & love they deserve!
